On Energy Paintings:
These energy paintings are exactly what their name suggests: splashes of paint brought to life through movement. Creating them feels like a dance, as I move around the canvas throwing and splashing paint with a sense of freedom and unpredictability that I find very rewarding.
I began this series when a health condition made it difficult to maintain the focus required for my highly realistic figurative work. I needed a way to create without the pressure of producing something extraordinary. In that freedom, however, something unexpected emerged.
Through this process, I discovered that the more carefree and playful I am with a painting, the more successful it tends to be. The many layers and transformations made the process just as important as the finished work, which led me to document each piece from start to finish in a single session.
Although most pieces are completed in a single day, the process is physically demanding. I am constantly moving around the canvas, reaching, pivoting, and thrusting my arms to direct the paint. The act of painting becomes part performance and part meditation—immersive, energetic, and deeply engaging. It leaves me both exhausted and exhilarated, making the creative process as rewarding as the finished work itself.
On the Figure:
These figurative works encompass a tender dance between color and form. Highly realistic yet minimal, my painted figures naturally coexist among sharp, spontaneous and organic geometry. I paint to create an intense, desirable, and euphoric mood through the expressive arrangements of my figures on canvas.
The femme, or woman, my primary subject, dominates and inspires my work. The body becomes a series of shapes that coexist like an intricate puzzle, requiring assembly by the viewer. The work deconstructs the beautiful, recomposing it with a newly painted armor that resonates in an indestructible figurative landscape.
Bio:
I am a Chicago-based artist and instructor. I earned my BFA from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, where I concentrated on drawing and painting the human form. My work has been featured in Hi-Fructose Magazine, Nakid Magazine, Wild Magazine, UNDR RPBLC, and Posture Magazine. I currently live and work from my studio in Chicago.
